Voters elect Olson, Ganson and Robinson for Geneseo’s BOE

During a consolidated election on Tuesday, residents voted to fill three four-year terms on Geneseo Community Unit School District #228’s Board of Education with Diane Olson and Kyle Ganson being re-elected and Julie Robinson claiming the third spot.

According to results on the Henry County website, Olson received 1,608 votes (59% of the 2,704 ballots cast), while Ganson and Robinson received 1,264 and 1,143 votes, respectively.

“On behalf of our school district, I want to congratulate Mrs. Olson and Mr. Ganson on being re-elected. Congratulations as well to Dr. Robinson, who we look forward to working with over the coming years,” stated Superintendent Dr. Adam Brumbaugh.

“I’d also like to congratulate Diane, Kyle and Julie, and thank everyone in our community who voted,” said Heather DeBrock, President of the Board of Education. “Diane and Kyle have served our district well and will continue to do so, and we welcome the fresh perspective that Julie will bring.”

The Board of Education’s regular meeting on April 13 will be conducted by its sitting board. Following a meeting to seat and reorganize the board–which is in the process of being scheduled for later this month–the new Board of Education will be in place for its regular meeting on May 11.

The April 13 meeting will mark the end of William Menendez’s term as a board member. Menendez, who was previously an administrator for the district, has served on Geneseo’s school board since 2019.

“Bill has been a wonderful advocate for students, teachers, administrators and our community,” said DeBrock. “He listens to everyone and takes their concerns to heart without judgment. Bill has been a valuable member of our board thanks to his experience and education, as well as his awareness and compassion.”

“Bill has given so much to our school district over the years. He deserves our thanks and we plan to take a few minutes to recognize him at our regular April meeting for that service,” said Dr. Brumbaugh.
