Geneseo schools celebrate National School Lunch Week

To recognize the National School Lunch Program, serving nearly 30 million children each day, Geneseo Community Unit School District #228 will celebrate National School Lunch Week from October 9-13, 2023.

The fun and creative campaign theme, “Level Up with School Lunch,” highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom.

“School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium,” said Michele Hepner, Food Service Director for Geneseo schools. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program.”

Geneseo schools will celebrate National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in each of its five buildings:

  • Northside, Millikin and Southwest: Elementary students will be trying new entrees during NSLW and be able to vote whether they are “Game Over” or “Level Up” items that they might like to see again on the menu. All students participating in school lunch will have a chance at a daily drawing and on Friday everyone participating is a winner.
  • Geneseo Middle School: GMS will have mystery winners. If your student is the lucky one who selects an item with a NSLW sticker, they can exchange it for a cookie coupon that can be spent anytime throughout the 2023-24 school year. There may be other surprises awaiting our middle school students as well.
  • Geneseo High School: GHS will be having something different each day. Be sure to check the daily announcements for details.
