GHS student-athletes celebrated at spring college signing day

Thirteen Geneseo High School student-athletes were joined by family, friends, coaches and teachers as each signed their National Letter of Intent on Wednesday morning.

Seniors who made their NCAA commitments official included Emily Bopes, Reagan Bopes, Brayden Combs, Neal Gaskey, Kodie Hudson, Mia Kelly, Bella McDaniel, Addie Mills, Connor Mitchell, Logan Palmer, Gia Ritter, Cooper Schaad and Sidney Spindel.

“We’re here to honor not only the commitments and sacrifices made by the students over the years, but their parents as well,” said Joe Nichols, Athletic Director at GHS, at the ceremony. “To compete in college athletics is a big deal, and we’re excited for their futures.”

  • Emily Bopes, the daughter of Eric Bopes and Paula Hamerlinck, signed to play softball at Madison College in Madison, Wisconsin.

  • Reagan Bopes, the daughter of Eric Bopes and Paula Hamerlinck, will play softball at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

  • Brayden Combs, the son of Sarah Combs-Burroughs and Adam Burroughs, is headed to Black Hawk College in Moline, Illinois, where he’ll play soccer.

  • Neal Gaskey, the son of Tom Gaskey, Even VanHese and Dannielle Gaskey, is on his way to Southeastern Community College in Burlington, Iowa, where he’ll play baseball.

  • Kodie Hudson, the daughter of Stephanie and Jamie Hudson, signed to play soccer at Black Hawk College in Moline, Illinois.

  • Mia Kelly, the daughter of Amanda and Ryan Kelly, will attend Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois, where she’ll compete in soccer.

  • Bella McDaniel, the daughter of Gena and Rick McDaniel, will join the tennis team at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois.

  • Addie Mills, the daughter of Rick and Jen Mills, will play basketball at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois.

  • Connor Mitchell, the son of Pat and Nancy Mitchell, is on his way to Northern Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, Iowa, where he’ll play baseball.

  • Logan Palmer, the son of Dan and Styphanie Palmer, signed to play baseball at Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois.

  • Gia Ritter, the daughter of Ryan Ritter and Maria Ritter, will compete in soccer and wrestling at Central College in Pella, Iowa.

  • Cooper Schaad, the son of Jason and Gwen Schaad, is heading to Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, where he’ll compete in track.

  • Sidney Spindel, the daughter of Chris and Brian Spindel, signed to play softball at Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois.

“On behalf of the administration and student body at Geneseo High School, we are proud of you all and the hard work it took to get to this point,” said Nichols. “We know as you go on to the next level you will be taking a piece of Geneseo with you, and we wish you the best of luck.”
