Five GHS seniors to continue their fine arts education

Five graduating Geneseo High School seniors have committed to further their fine arts education at the collegiate level.

Kara Sancken, Logan VanDeWoestyne, Joseph Versluis, Shay Schehl and Paxton Sherbyn were recently joined by family and friends in the high school’s concert hall as they signed on with the colleges of their choice.

Kara Sancken, who was presented by John Versluis, is the daughter of Glen and Christy Sancken. Kara will be attending Olivet University, where she will be majoring in Music Education and participating in the marching band and various instrumental ensembles.

Logan VanDeWoestyne, who was introduced by Joe DePauw, is the son of Kim and Ryan VanDeWoestyne. Logan will be attending the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, where he will be majoring in Musical Theatre.

Joseph Versluis, who was presented by Jamie Kotovsky, is the son of John and Lisa Versluis. Joseph will be attending the University of Central Florida in Orlando, where he will be majoring in Music Education and participating in the marching band, concert band, and if time allows, the pep band.

Shay Schehl, who was introduced by John Versluis, is the daughter of Chris and Cheryl Schehl. Shay will be attending Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, where she plans to double major in Music Education and Tuba Performance. Shay hopes to participate in the band, orchestra, chamber ensembles, marching band, and choir while at NIU.

Paxton Sherbyn, who was presented by Larry Lord, is the son of Kelly and Polly Sherbeyn. Paxton will be attending Black Hawk College, where he will be participating in the choir and jazz band, as well as the theory programs and piano classes. Paxton plans to continue performing, writing and recording music before transferring to a university to attain his bachelor's degree in Music Education.
