Superintendent Dr. Laura Delgado recently joined Geneseo City Administrator Brandon Maeglin and Alderman Keith Kennett on Let’s Talk Geneseo, a weekly show broadcast on TV50 and WGRG 100.5 FM.
Delgado, who took the reins as Geneseo’s superintendent on July 1, talked about settling into her new role, getting to know the community, technology in the classroom, teacher retention, and working with the Board of Education on a strategic plan.
“I am so grateful to work for a school board that is so collaborative, supportive and dedicated to doing what's right for our kids,” Delgado said. “They have been very welcoming to me and very supportive. We are currently working on strategic planning that's long-term planning for the district. That will help address some of our challenges.”
Delgado also spoke about the importance of communication and transparency.
“One of the tenets of our strategic planning with the school board is transparency and open communication,” she explained. “There are certainly times when you don't share things out of respect for people's privacy, obviously. But the more transparent we can be about whatever it is that we're working on, and the more we welcome stakeholders into the conversation, I think the less pushback or questions you get later on. So I think it's really, really important that we connect with stakeholders and the board.”
