Geneseo shares its 2026-27 school calendar: Key dates families need to know

Families, students and staff can begin planning for the upcoming academic year as Geneseo Community Unit School District 228 has released its 2026-27 school calendar, highlighting important instructional days, holidays, conferences and school events.

"We know families rely on our school calendar to plan everything from appointments to vacations," said Dr. Laura Delgado, Superintendent of Geneseo Community Unit School District 228. "By sharing these important dates well in advance, we hope to help our students, parents and staff prepare for a successful school year. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in August and continuing to provide a safe, engaging and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive."

Following new teacher orientation and a teacher institute, students will return to classrooms for the first day of attendance on Aug. 12.

In the fall, the district will observe Labor Day on Sept. 7. The Homecoming parade and football game are scheduled for Sept. 11, which includes a one-hour early dismissal. A school improvement day with a half-day schedule follows on Sept. 30.

The first quarter ends Oct. 9, and families will have opportunities to meet with teachers during parent-teacher conferences on Oct. 15 and 16. Oct. 15 includes an early dismissal, while on Oct. 16 there will be no attendance.

Several other non-attendance days are built into the fall schedule, including a teacher institute on Oct. 19 and Election Day on Nov. 3. School will be in session for Veterans Day on Nov. 11, presenting an opportunity to help students understand the meaning of the holiday through assemblies, lessons, and community engagement.

Another half-day of student attendance for a school improvement day is planned for Nov. 18 before students begin Thanksgiving break from Nov. 23-27.

As winter approaches, students will have a half-day on Dec. 11 for a teacher institute before enjoying Christmas break from Dec. 21 through Jan. 1.

The second semester includes several notable dates, including the Geneseo Wrestling Invitational on Jan. 15, which features a one-hour early dismissal. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 18 (also a teacher institute day) and Presidents Day on Feb. 15 are both designated as no student attendance days. Additional teacher institute days are scheduled for Feb. 12 (half-day) and March 5 (no student attendance).

The third quarter concludes on March 12, followed by spring break from March 15-19 and Easter break from March 26-29.

The district's final school improvement day of 2026-27 is scheduled for April 21, with students dismissed after a half day.

The school year will wrap up with graduation on May 23, followed by a half-day teacher institute on May 24.

Emergency days of student attendance, if needed, may be used on February 15 (Presidents’ Day), March 29 (Monday after Easter), and May 25 through June 1.
