Geneseo Community Unit School District #228’s Board of Education approved a plan on Thursday to hold five of its regular meetings at schools in the district during the 2026-27 school year.
Superintendent Dr. Laura Delgado said the change will give board members a valuable opportunity to visit the district’s facilities and learn more about each one.
“There is real value in having our Board of Education spend time in each of our schools,” said Delgado. ”Seeing our buildings firsthand will give board members a better understanding of the environments in which our students and staff learn and work every day.”
Delgado said that principals will take the lead on showcasing their building and offering a brief tour prior to each meeting for board members and anyone else from the community interested in attending.
“When board members are able to walk through our schools, see classrooms and common spaces, and hear directly from building leaders, it will provide a perspective that you simply can’t get from our traditional meetings at the unit office,” said Delgado.
Regular Board of Education meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. With the updated 2026-27 schedule, five of those meetings will be held at the following schools:
November 12: Millikin Elementary School
January 14: Southwest Elementary School
February 11: Geneseo High School
March 11: Geneseo Middle School
April 8: Northside Elementary School
Other regular meetings will be held at the district office, located at 648 North Chicago Street.
“We’re proud of all of our buildings and the people who work in them,” said Delgado. “Taking our meetings into the schools is one way we can showcase that work and help our board members stay connected to the entire district.”
