U.S. News recognizes GHS with its Best High Schools rankings

Geneseo High School has landed on the Best High Schools list released by U.S. News for the fourth consecutive year.

For its 2026-27 list, U.S. News ranks GHS at #2,282 nationally, #94 among Illinois high schools, and #2 in the Davenport, IA Metro Area High Schools category, trailing only Pleasant Valley High School.

“This recognition is a tremendous accomplishment for our students, staff and families,” said GHS Principal Tom Ryerson. “It reflects the hard work and commitment our students bring to their education every day, as well as the dedication of our teachers and staff to providing meaningful opportunities for every student.”

The U.S. News Best High Schools rankings include data on more than 27,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Nearly 18,000 schools were ranked on six factors – college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, and graduation rate.

“This achievement is a wonderful reflection of the excellence we see throughout our district and it speaks to the dedication of our students, the commitment of our educators, and the strong support of our families and community,” said Superintendent Dr. Laura Delgado. “We are especially proud to see Geneseo High School ranked among the top schools in Illinois and second in our local area. This recognition celebrates the hard work happening every day at GHS and reinforces our commitment to preparing all students for success.”
