On Tuesday, April 14, work at the intersection of Ogden Avenue and State Street will begin that will significantly impact traffic to and from Geneseo High School and Geneseo Middle School.
This work is being done now as the contractor discovered unexpected infrastructure issues that significantly impact proper water and sewer services to the high school. It is anticipated that the work could last up to two weeks.
The following is an overview of how students and families from each school may need to reroute their usual travels.
Geneseo High School
Drivers can access GHS in one of two ways:
When coming from College Avenue and turning east onto Ogden Avenue, drivers can then turn north onto State Street as usual.
When coming from the east portion of Ogden Avenue, drivers will need to turn north at Russell Avenue into the parking lot directly south of Bob Reade Field. Drivers will then be routed west through the parking lot and onto State Street.
Geneseo Middle School (updated)
For after-school traffic leaving GMS:
When drivers leave the middle school between 3-3:30 p.m., you will be directed by crossing guards to turn left (east) and head towards Chicago Street to avoid the road closure and congestion at State Street and Ogden Avenue.
After the 3-3:30 p.m. time frame, the city requests that drivers who are leaving GMS and needing to travel north do not drive through the parking lot south of Bob Reade Field to access State Street and College Avenue. Please take Russell Avenue south in order to eventually turn west and connect up with College Avenue.
Drivers coming from north of Geneseo
Anyone traveling from the north of town to GHS and GMS are encouraged to take the Wolf Road extension to Grange Road to Chicago Street and then west onto Ogden Avenue.
Slow down, stay alert
We ask that all drivers please take extra care when traveling to and from the high school and middle school during this construction period.
Pay attention to and follow the directions of our dedicated crossing guards. Slow down, stay alert, and follow all posted signage. Your safety, and the safety of others, depends on it.
