Just a reminder for 7th and 8th grade Band and Choir students that this is a make up week for assessments.

On Saturday the wrestling team competed in the IESA regionals. They would compete hard all day and finish third as a team. The team would send 12 to the placement matches. The 9 sectional qualifiers are Maddux Kennedy, Kain Stroud, Emmett Hill, Kane Hamer, JW Seals, Dawson Hull, Harrison Hill, Cyrus Babcock and Jadyn Shipmen.

This past weekend the Chess team traveled to Peoria to compete in the state tournament, where they put up a fight!

The 8th grade team, made up of Cameron Jansen, Taeton Chirchir, Annabella Kelley, Lydia Carton, Luke Bedford, and Lily Bellagamba put their skills to the test against very tough competition coming away with 11 points from 5 rounds of games. 5 out of the 6 competitors managed to walk away from the competition with at least 1 win, and all 6 gained at least half a point, drawing with their opponent. As a team, they finished in 31st place out of 53 teams. Congratulations 8th graders on playing 3 years of fantastic chess!

The 7th grade team, made up of Ethan Temperley, Hunter Hoover, Owen Harris, Faroh Finch, and Eli Erickson also played very well! They came away with 15.5 points from 8 rounds of competition. Ethan, Hunter, Faroh, and Eli, all of whom were competitors in last year's edition of the tournament, were able to beat their scores from last year! Additionally, all of the 7th graders won at least 2 of their matches! As a team, they finished 25th place. Way to go 7th graders, keep practicing and trying to do better at next year's tournament!

And last but certainly not least, the 6th grade team, made up of David Betcher, Zachary Blank, Easton Sigwalt, Kameron Floming, Henry Woodward, Wyatt Lynch, and Wyatt Murray had a very impressive showing at the tournament. As first time attendees to the state tournament they put up an impressive fight against very formidable opponents! Each of the 6th graders came away with at least 2 wins, including David, and Zach who had 4 wins, and Wyatt Lynch, Henry Woodward, and Wyatt Murray who all walked away with 5 wins, which matches the school high, unfortunately they missed out on the school points record by half a point. But as a team the 6th graders amassed 29 total points which blows the previous record set by last year's 8th graders of 25.5 points out of the water!!! They finished in an impressive 10th place out of 50 teams!! Way to go 6th graders!

Congratulations to all of the state tournament participants, you made GMS proud!
