Congratulations to the GMS Cross Country team on a fantastic showing at their first meet of the season at Empire Park. It was a hot and sweaty day but the Leafs were the ones with the real heat! The 7th grade boys finished in first place as a team. Will Ehlert was the race champion, and Kyle Wirth, Henry Woodward and Declan Gillespie all finished in the top 10. The 7th grade girls finished in second place as a team with a strong showing. Girls finishing in the top 10 were Scarlett Sunstrom, Hailey Olson, Aspen Znamenacek, and Emily Hayes. The 8th grade girls finished in 2nd place as a team, missing out on 1st place by only 1 point! Charlize Wachtel was the race champion, and Annika Brumbaugh and Faith Kuster also finished in the top 10. The 8th grade boys did not have enough team members to compete as a team, but they all ran a great race! The team competes again today at the Sterling Grass Relays. Congrats Leafs!
The 8th Grade Football team kicked off their season last night against Wilson. Wilson scored on their opening possession and Geneseo responded with a long touchdown drive of their own. The game was tied 8 to 8 at half time, but Geneseo took control in the second half and won the game 20 to 8. It’s back to work today for the boys as they prepare for their next game against Edison.
