Have you purchased a GMS yearbook? Check with your 1st hour teacher to see if your name is on the list. If not, don't wait. Order your yearbook on your Skyward account or pick up an order form at the main office. Prices will increase in January, and all sales will end soon after.

This year’s spelling bee will take place on Thursday, December 18th in the Large Group Room beginning at 8:30 a.m. for any 8th grade student interested in competing. 8th grade students who choose to participate in the spelling bee are required to see Mrs. Plant or Mrs. Francque by December 12th to sign up and receive a practice study list. Only 8th grade students who have ‘pre-registered’ by December 12th may compete in the bee.
Do you have a knack for trivia? Love a little friendly competition? If so, please consider joining the GMS Scholastic Bowl team! There will be an informational meeting for any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student interested in Scholastic Bowl in Mrs. Francque’s classroom, Room 812, on Tuesday, December 9th at 7:40 a.m. If you are unable to attend but would like to be a part of the team, please see Mrs. Francque by December 12th. Whether you're a trivia master or just curious to learn, there's a spot for YOU. Join us and let’s win together!
Attention Hoops Fans: All of our teams were in action last night...but all four looked a bit..."turkeyish." The As haven't had a practice or game since last Tuesday due to some cancellations. Our guys battled but couldn't shake the loads of turkey and video games during that week off and the Wilson Wildcats roared past both our 7A and 8A teams. Our Bs traveled to Morrison to take on the Mustangs. Both our 7Bs and 8Bs got bucked around by the host Mustangs. The good news is the Bs get a chance to bounce back tonight at QC Christian and the As get a chance Thursday at Jordan. Go Leafs!
This coming Saturday, December 6th, both our 8A and 8B basketball teams will be playing in the Eric Dietrich Memorial Shootout in GFAC. The shootout is named after our former GMS student, Eric Dietrich. Eric was a boys basketball manager his 7th grade year. Tragically, in 2017, his life was taken from him during the summer between his 7th and 8th grade year. Since then, the shootout has been named after this wonderful, full of spirit, and supportive young man. Eric’s family honors Eric by raising money during the shootout and donating it to the Make a Wish Foundation in honor of Eric Dietrich. On Saturday, they will be selling raffle tickets. You buy however many tickets you wish, then place the tickets in one, or several baskets of your choice. Then around 1:00 they will draw one lucky winner for each basket. You do NOT have to be present to win. The baskets include gifts for all ages and all genders. They are always very impressive. One of the big items this year is a Beats Solos 4 headphones! So this Saturday, head up to the GFAC to support our 8A and 8B basketball teams and also consider buying some raffle tickets to win some great prizes and honor a truly remarkable young man taken far too soon, Eric Dietrich.
Attention 7th and 8th grade girls interested in playing GMS basketball this upcoming season. The season will begin the Monday after Winter Break and last through the month of February. In PE/Health classes, they have been taking names of girls who are interested in playing. By Monday, this list will be posted in the girls locker room and it will also indicate whether you have an updated athletic physical on file with our school nurse. You MUST have a physical on file in order to practice or play in games. After signing up in PE class and seeing the list on Monday, if you have any questions, or if you want to be added, or removed, from the list, please see Coach Monier in room #602. We will have a brief meeting the last week before break to hand out the early season schedule, go over expectations, and answer any questions. We share information about this meeting in the announcements when the date nears. Go Leafs!
