The 8th grade football team played their first game of the season last night against Wilson and won 8 to 0. It was their defense that came up big forcing turnovers and ending the game with a huge goal line stand. The team travels to Davenport on Saturday to take on Assumption.

Geneseo Middle School softball was back in action yesterday in Ottawa for a highly anticipated matchup against the Ottawa Shepherd Rams. The Rams entered the game undefeated at 11-0, while GMS was also undefeated at 6-0. The game was a battle from the start, with the teams tied 0-0 heading into the third inning. Birthday girl Tommie Bess led off the inning with a base hit, followed by a pair of bunts from Natalia Smith and Sienna Temperly. With the bases loaded, Samantha Minnaert-Yocum tripled to center field, scoring all three runners and giving GMS the lead. From there, the Leafs' offense came alive, exploding for 12 runs in the third inning! Highlights included a pinch-hit triple by Korie VonHolten, while Harper Peters went 2-for-2 on the day. GMS went on to shut out the Rams, winning 13-0 in four innings and improving to 7-0 on the season. Tonight, the girls return home for their final regular-season home game against Galva at 4:30 p.m. Come on out to JFE and support your GMS Leafs!
