Superintendent Brumbaugh honored by Geneseo’s BOE

Dr. Adam Brumbaugh was honored by Geneseo's Board of Education at its June meeting as his tenure as superintendent neared its end.

Brumbaugh has served as the district's superintendent since 2018. Among his many accomplishments include implementing instructional coaching cycles for every teacher, creating Professional Learning Communities, overseeing the construction of Geneseo High School's $4.2 million Career and Technical Education Center, and renewing a standards-based approach to teaching and learning.

“Dr. Brumbaugh brought sincerity, professionalism, and a real commitment to provide uniform professional development to our district,” said Kyle Ganson, Vice President for the Board of Education. “His efforts led to the implementation of instructional coaching and standards-based focus on improving student learning.”

The board presented Brumbaugh with a custom, oversized version of a Maple Leaf Medallion, the award he created in 2020 and has since handed out hundreds of times. Brumbaugh previously served in the United States Army and drew inspiration from a military challenge coin when creating the medallion, which was awarded to students and staff who demonstrated "Teach-Learn-Care" of the highest order.

"Dr. Brumbaugh was a great team player, ready to listen to all sides of an issue, but most importantly he looked at doing what was best for students,” said Diane Olson, Secretary for the Board of Education. “He was never satisfied with ‘status quo’ because he knew good can always be made better. He served Geneseo's schools with dignity and humility, and most of all, displayed Teach-Learn-Care to the highest level. It was a pleasure to work with him the last seven years, and I wish him the best as he moves on.”

Brumbaugh, who was recently named a 2025 Superintendent of Distinction by his colleagues in the Blackhawk Region of the Illinois Association of School Administrators, will now take over as Germantown Hills School District #69’s superintendent.

Barry Snodgrass, who served on the Board of Education from 1997-2025, praised Brumbaugh for being a thoughtful leader.

“Adam rarely made an immediate decision on a problem,” explained Snodgrass. “He was very good at thinking things through and always seemed to end up with a good solution to the problems that he came across. He’s a thinker and a processor, and I admire him for that.”

Snodgrass added, “The more time I spent around him, the more I appreciated Adam. I am very thankful for his years of service to our school district and wish him the very best as he moves forward.”

Dr. Laura Delgado will take over as Geneseo’s superintendent on July 1. Learn more about Dr. Delgado, her professional journey, and how she plans to lead the school district:
