Geneseo High School is searching for its next varsity boys’ basketball head coach, opening an opportunity to lead a program coming off a strong season and positioned for continued growth.
The vacancy follows the departure of TJ Lacey, who stepped away for personal reasons and family considerations. Despite his brief tenure, Lacey made a notable impact by sparking a revival within the program, fostering player development, and reestablishing higher standards.
The ideal candidate will not only guide the basketball program, but also contribute within the high school, as the new coach could also teach physical education.
The timing of the opening aligns with a period of momentum for Geneseo basketball. During the 2025-26 season, the team recorded its highest win total in five years. Key contributors, including all-conference standouts Jaydon Burrage and Jack Kreiss, are expected to return, providing a strong foundation for the incoming coach.
Beyond returning talent, the future pipeline is promising. The program benefits from a youth system filled with coachable, hardworking athletes, strong community and administrative support, and motivated boosters.
Facilities are another draw. Geneseo student-athletes train in the Geneseo Foundation Activity Center, a fieldhouse featuring multiple courts, an expansive weight room, and access to a full-time strength and conditioning coach. The school also recently upgraded its main gym floor during the 2024-25 school year.
