Class of 2026 participates in Geneso's first-ever Senior Walk

The halls of Geneseo’s elementary schools were filled with excitement and inspiration on Monday as members of the Class of 2026 participated in the district’s very first Senior Walk.

Geneseo’s inaugural Senior Walk took place at Millikin, Northside and Southwest, giving graduating seniors the opportunity to return to the elementary schools they once attended, this time wearing caps and gowns as future graduates.

“This is a chance to give back and inspire,” said Geneseo High School Principal Tom Ryerson. “Our youngest learners get to see firsthand what their future can look like. It also gives our graduates a moment to reflect on how far they have come since their elementary school days.”

Members of the Class of 2026, who will formally graduate on Sunday, May 24, walked through the hallways while elementary students and staff lined the corridors to cheer them on and celebrate their accomplishments. The event is designed not only to celebrate and honor graduating seniors, but also to show younger students what years of hard work and perseverance can achieve.

“For many students, the walk is a full-circle moment,” said Ryerson. “They are able to return to the classrooms and hallways where their educational journey began while preparing to graduate and move on to college, careers, military service, and other future opportunities.”

Administrators hope the event becomes a lasting Geneseo tradition for future graduating classes.
