GMS students Colin Roemer, Taeton Chirchir, Elijah Coppejans, Jadynn Pollard, Lily Bellagamba, Addi Swan, Faith Mierop, and Nadia Karn were escorted by Ms. Croft to Omaha, Nebraska to participate in the midwest ACDA Honor Choir. “This was honestly one of the best choir events showing excellence of the students participating in the choirs,” said Ms. Croft. Here is some information about ACDA and the choirs: Founded in 1959, ACDA is a nonprofit music education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. In addition, ACDA strives through arts advocacy to elevate choral music’s position in American society. To participate in an ACDA honors choir, students had to audition and be selected out of the entire midwest. To be selected is a great honor. For the three days they were away, students got to work with Dr. Brandon Boyd, the director of choral activities and graduate choral conducting program and associate professor of choral music education at the University of Missouri - Columbia. Students improved skills in their ability to read a variety of music, blend, create tall vowels, express diction, and build a community by making new friends from different schools.
