GMS welcomed are newest families with Incoming 6th grade Parent Night. 6th grade Teachers, Counselors, and Admin were on hand to help parents and students start the transition to middle school with a presentation, some stories, and a mini open house. Millikin 5th Grade classes were each awarded A Project Jack Grant for $250 to complete a Pay-It-Forward project. The Iowa Realtor's Association sponsors Project Jack in honor of Jack Lindaman. Millikin fifth graders chose to use grant money to purchase needed items for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's hospital because of the personal connections several of our students have with this amazing hospital. Students worked in groups to create a list of items to purchase and researched which stores have the best value. Once items arrive students will package items to be delivered to Iowa City.
2nd Grade students at Northside had a blast ending up their measurement unit with some hands on learning. They got to measure their classmates length in inches and feet.

Congratulations to our Geneseo Student Leadership Award winners for 2022-23. IL Principals Association Principals award two top students from each K-8 school for demonstrating servant leadership throughout their entire time at Millikin, Northside, Southwest and GMS. 8th grade GMS students got their first taste of high school today when they visited GHS for an amazing tour and early welcome to 9th grade. Thank you to Mr. Ryerson and all the GHS staff for giving 8th graders this great opportunity, and thank you to Mrs. Reed and Mrs. Feely for organizing the day.
Congratulations to Nyna Schweitzer, Neveah Rotz, and Brooklyn Smith for winning the Geneseo Rotary Club U.S. Constitution Essay contest. Nyna's essay was 1st place, Neveah was 2nd, and Brooklyn 3rd, all winning a cash prize as well. Each young lady wrote about what the Constitution means to them and their family.
6th grade ELA students take part in a gallery walk on the Holocaust today. Groups rotated to different artifacts to view, read and discuss the impact of each. The walk was a simulation of the Holocaust Museum, preparing students to read the book "The Boy Who Dared," a book based on a true story about a youth in Nazi Germany who told the truth about Hitler and his regime in the 30s and 40s.

Congratulations to Southwest 5th grade student Korah Klotz for having her Time Magazine for Kids magazine cover selected for the 100 year anniversary (so for the year 2123). Her cover page will be used in a future issue. Job well done!
Student tickets for prom will be sold in the main lobby at GHS for $10 each (cash only) on April 25, April 27 and May 2 during 6th and 7th periods and from 3 to 3:30 on those days. This year's prom, sponsored by the Class of 2024, will take place on May 13 at the Quad City Botanical Center from 8 to 11 with a masquerade theme. Guest verification forms can be found in the AP office and the no-exceptions deadline to submit them is April 10.
Fifth graders from Millikin, Northside and Southwest elementary schools got a taste of the real world when they visited JA BizTown last week.

Geneseo schools will be dismissing 1 hour early on Tuesday afternoon due to the severe weather in our area. Lunch will be offered to students as usual. There will be no afternoon preschool, S.A.F.E., sports or extracurriculars this afternoon and evening. Stay safe!

Northside's 5th grade students had a great time and learned a lot on last week's field trip to Junior Achievement's BizTown. Each student was fantastic with their job and learned some wonderful skills.
Registration for new and returning students must be completed online for the 2023-24 school year. Early registration for Pre-K and Kindergarten students will open on April 17 at 8:00 am and close on May 12 at 3:00 pm. 5th grade students this week took over JA BizTown this week! This learning experience allows our students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor. Students are able to connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world.
