
Here's a week-end review at GMS. Swing Choir and Jazz Band at elementary schools for Fine Arts Day, ELA in the halls for narrative writing gallery walks, and big Ben S. won our first ever IESA wrestling championship alongside 3 teammates who placed and finished strong.











Congratulations to our GMS and Geneseo Rotary Club Students of the Month, Cole and Hailey. These two incredible 7th graders were honored for their commitment to learning, dedication in sports, and service to the community and school.



"On the Same Page," a community-wide reading project sponsored annually by GMS, will host a community potluck on Tuesday, April 8 at the middle school. This year’s community-wide read is Lasagna Means I Love You by Kate O’Shaughnessy. Make your favorite family recipes and bring them to share with other families who attend. The Geneseo Dementia Task Force is hosting its 2nd Annual Mindful Strides 5K and 2 Mile Run/Walk on Saturday, April 5. The event also offer a Kids Stride for those who register. Wrestlers bound for IESA State take the "Walk of Champions", and national breakfast week hero's serve up hundreds of meals in 4 days. A busy and amazing week for GMS.








GMS recently hosted guest speaker Matt Kendziera with the organization "Rachel's Challenge" during assemblies for each grade level. He shared the tragic story of Rachel Scott and the message of hope as her parents and siblings promised to honor her legacy of creating a culture of kindness and compassion among teenagers. The message challenged students to create a chain reaction of kindness. Many of I ur GMS students were inspired to keep Rachel's Challenge moving and pledged to be kind to their classmates and others throughout the community by signing our own Challenge banner.









GMS Bands and Choirs warmed up the Concert Hall with some incredible Winter Concert music tonight. Jazz band kicked off the show, Swing Choir lit up the stage, and the 7th and 8th grade musicians, and their amazing directors, brought down the house.








What an amazing couple days for our Chess team at IESA State in Peoria. 8th grade finished 37th out of 59 teams, 7th grade finished 16th out of 54 teams, and 6th grade finished 19th out of 45 teams. And GMS 8th grader Wyatt Lynch won a Bronze medal for scoring 6 points over the 8 rounds of play our first ever place winner at the IESA Chess State tournament. Geneseo came out of the tournament with 67 points in total, great job Leafs!



GMS Girls Basketball are Heartland Conference Champs tonight! 7th grade beat Glenview in a heated game, and in front of a packed house, to go Undefeated and win Conference. 8th grade also defeated Glenview to become our first ever back to back Conference Champions. #BeLEAF











Middle Schoolers who reached their math MAP Accelerator minutes and level ups enjoyed some free play time with friends on Friday. Keep building those math skills GMS!






Congrats to the GMS Wrestling team on a great showing at IESA Regionals today. We're sending more than a half dozen wrestlers to Sectionals in DeKalb next weekend. Go get em Leafs!

The registration deadline for the upcoming GMS Cheer Clinic has been extended! Track and Field season for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls is starting soon! GMS 8th grade math teacher Erin Gillespie was nominated and honored by her student, Jack Parker, with a Maple Leaf Medallion awarded by Dr. Brumbaugh. Congratulations to Mrs. Gillespie for her strong work and dedication to TEACH - LEARN - CARE every day at GMS with her students. Way to go!



Due to the winter storm warning for Wednesday, there will be no school for Geneseo on February 12, 2025. The make-up day will be on April 21, 2025. There will be no evening activities on Wednesday.


Congratulations to our Geneseo Middle School and Rotary Club Students of the Month, 6th graders McKenzie Caulkins and Grant Nelson. These two amazing young people demonstrate LEAF skills at GMS and throughout the Geneseo community. Leadership, Effort, Accountability, and Focus are just part of who they are, and it shows!
