GMS and Mr. Verner took the Polar Plunge this morning in support of our local Special Olympics Team. Ms Wancket and the Builders Club raised over $500 for equipment and resources for Geneseo Schools Special Olympics.

Health classes at GMS study substance abuse, highlighting the negative effects of drugs, tobacco and alcohol on the human body. Groups of 2-3 researched and developed posters detailing their findings, take a look. The next unit will be on natural highs like reading and running.
GMS students Colin Roemer, Taeton Chirchir, Elijah Coppejans, Jadynn Pollard, Lily Bellagamba, Addi Swan, Faith Mierop, and Nadia Karn were escorted by Ms. Croft to Omaha, Nebraska to participate in the midwest ACDA Honor Choir. “This was honestly one of the best choir events showing excellence of the students participating in the choirs,” said Ms. Croft.

Founded in 1959, ACDA is a nonprofit music education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. In addition, ACDA strives through arts advocacy to elevate choral music’s position in American society.
To participate in an ACDA honors choir, students had to audition and be selected out of the entire midwest. To be selected is a great honor. For the three days they were away, students got to work with Dr. Brandon Boyd, the director of choral activities and graduate choral conducting program and associate professor of choral music education at the University of Missouri - Columbia. Students improved skills in their ability to read a variety of music, blend, create tall vowels, express diction, and build a community by making new friends from different schools.

Sheila Puls, Megan VerStraete and Melanie Rice were recently awarded Maple Leaf Medallions by Dr. Brumbaugh for their efforts in setting up special education students with various opportunities outside of the classroom.
