Kindness has been a renewed focus and theme throughout Geneseo Schools this week and visible around GMS too. Students and staff shared positive thoughts and kind messages posted in the cafeteria on sticky notes for everyone to read. Beginning Thursday, students were encouraged to take notes to share with others or keep for themselves. Let's ALL KEEP THE KINDNESS ROLLING every day and share it beyond GMS too!!!

"Be the change you wish to see in the world"-Gandhi. GMS students and staff are choosing kindness through a host of activities that include: filling up the cafe with kind notes, completing kindness-bingo, dressing up as a twin-friend, wearing positive words shirts, and more.

6th grade students and teachers had a live Google Meet with musher Sydnie Bahl, who will compete next month in the 2026 Iditarod sled dog race. Students developed lots of questions to ask Sydnie to connect their learning in language arts classes to her life and experience. This real world opportunity will help students as they use their new authentic prior knowledge to connect with the novel unit they're studying.

Whether it was math scavenger hunts in the 6th grade hall, wheel of vocab in Reading classes, or our 8th graders learning about Career Connections and distinguished alumni with Mr. Mackey, there was visible Teach Learn Care all over GMS today!

There's a lot of learning going on across GMS this week. From cardboard sculpture creations in Art, to lit and language stations in ELA, to Haiku Samurai designs in Geography. Powerful teaching and learning on display!

Our very own Dean Johnson has been recognized by the Illinois Principals Association (IPA) as the Blackhawk Region Assistant Principal of the Year. Dean will be honored at the IPA awards ceremony on April 10th alongside two incredible GMS student leaders. Congratulations Mr. J!

GMS students were rocking it today in an ELA MixUp, writing Iditarod Musher letters to the most intense athletes in the nation in Alaska's annual sled dog race. We also celebrated Khan Academy Math semester 1 winners with gift cards to local businesses. Keep it up GMS!!!

Whether it's Girls Basketball taking down Jordan in intense games in the Machine Shed, or our FCA taking a timeout to do the "Church Clap," GMS leaders are showing teamwork in the cold of January.
